Nanogel

Since it’s invention in the 1930’s, silica aerogel has long promised almost magical properties but has not been avaliable as a commercially viable product – until now.  The Cabot Corporation, a global speciality chemical company from Boston, USA, has commenced production of Nanogel, its silica aerogel translucent thermal insulation material, at its factory in Frankfurt, Germany.

Nanogel is an extremely lightweight, highly porous from of silica aerogel that is 97% air.  With pore sizes so small that air molecule movement is restricted and with a low percentage of solids, Nanogel achieves extraordinary insulation values, high light transmissions and enhanced sound attenuation.

Kalwall Corporation and Cabot Corporation, two innovative leaders in their respective fields, have joined to produce a revolutionary new product, Kalwall with Nanogel Translucent Aerogel.  Kalwall with Nanogel has a ‘U’ Value of 0.28W/m2K, four times better than insulating glass units, and with ‘museum’ quality diffuse glare free daylight.

With Kalwall’s track record of daylighting technology, the addition of Nanogel translucent aerogel produces the most insulating, diffuse light transmitting building panel avaliable.
